Every listing has a source: Technical Safety BC, BC Housing, or Google Places. The pipeline is documented and the data is refreshed monthly.

Ratings appear per-platform (Google, Yelp) with a link to the source. No blended "our score". What you see is what the source shows.

Built specifically for Kamloops, not as a page on a national franchise. The data, the design, and the people behind it are all local.
Where the data comes from
- Technical Safety BC
- The provincial licensing registry for electricians, gas fitters, refrigeration, boilers, and elevators. Every contractor in these trades with an active license shows up here, and we display their license number inline. This is our primary source — about 40% of listings come from it.
- BC Housing Licensed Residential Builder registry
- The required licensing for building new homes in BC. This is how we separate legitimate home builders and general contractors from unlicensed operators.
- Google Places & Yelp Fusion
- For trades that aren't provincially licensed (roofing, painting, landscaping, flooring, drywall, cleaning, and others) we use Google Places to find local businesses and Yelp Fusion to cross-reference ratings where available. Review text on each profile is pulled directly from Google Places.
What we show and what we hide
If a business doesn't have a description, we show nothing. If it has no reviews, we show no stars. If we can't find a phone number, we hide the Call button instead of faking one. We never invent data to fill space.
Descriptions come from each business's own website or are generated from their license category and trade. Service tags (residential, commercial, industrial, emergency, etc.) are extracted from their public website copy.
Why this exists
Most home-service directories are national. Kamloops — a city of around 100,000 — deserves one that's built locally, treats license verification as a baseline feature, and surfaces the contractors that are actually here. The province publishes the licensing registries; we just turn them into something searchable.
If you're a homeowner looking for a tradesperson, you can filter by trade, sort by license + rating, and call the business directly. If you're a contractor and your listing needs a correction or you want to upgrade your placement, head to the for business owners page.
How it's built
The directory is a static Next.js site. Data is fetched monthly from the source registries, matched against Google Place IDs for rating data, and written to a JSON file at build time. Nothing is server-rendered from a database. This is deliberately boring — boring is cheaper to run, faster to serve, and harder to break.
