How we review contractor listings
The directory is designed to make public records easier to use while keeping the limits of those records visible.
Where listings come from
We start with public Technical Safety BC and BC Housing licence records, then use public business websites and map listings to add contact details, service areas, and ratings. A listing can appear without a licence when the trade is not provincially regulated; it is never labelled licence-verified unless a public registry record is on file.
What licence-verified means
A shield means we matched the business to a public licence or registry identifier and display that identifier on the profile. It does not mean we inspected the contractor's work, insurance, employees, or current capacity. Visitors should confirm the live registry status before hiring.
How ratings are handled
Google and Yelp ratings remain attributed to their original platforms. We show the platform, review count, and source link rather than inventing a private score. Ratings can change between data refreshes, so the source platform remains authoritative.
Ranking and advertising
Directory sorting is based on the selected user filter, public licence signals, rating data, and listing completeness. Display advertising and paid placements are labelled and do not change the licence status shown on a profile. Contractors cannot buy a fabricated rating or verification badge.
Updates and corrections
Records are refreshed from their source data and carry a last-checked date where available. Business owners and visitors can report a closed business, changed phone number, missing licence, or incorrect trade. Corrections are checked against a public source before publication.
What users should verify
Before signing a contract, confirm the current licence, insurance, permits, written scope, payment schedule, warranty, and references. Kamloops Contractors is a research directory, not a contractor, regulator, insurer, or guarantee of workmanship.
